VISHWAKARMA – Devshilpi ।The Divine Architect
VISHWAKARMA IS THE LORD OF ARCHITECTURE IN HINDUISM. HE
IS ALSO KNOWN AS “DEVSHILPI” OR “ARCHITECT OF GODS”. Vishwakarma is the architect of the gods and the god of
architecture, building and crafts. He is also the presiding god of all
engineers, architects, builders, carpenters, and craftsmen. Vishwakrma lives in Swarga and his mounts are a swan and an elephant.
Vishvakarman is the divine carpenter and
master craftsman who fashioned the weapons of the gods and built their cities
and chariots. He is the architect of the mythical city Lanka and is also said to have made the great image of Jagannath at Puri (Orissa).
He revealed the sciences of architecture and mechanics to humans and is the patron deity of workers, artisans, and artists.
The Rig Veda describes Viswakarma as the God with
multi-dimensional vision and supreme strength.
He is the designer of all the palaces and flying
chariots of the Gods. He is said to have revealed the Sthapatya Veda
or fourth-Upa Veda, and presides over sixty four mechanical arts.
He is also created Sudarshan Chakra
the sacred weapon of Lord Vishnu and Krishna .
Family
of Lord Vishwakarma :-
Vishwakarma married Gayatri and had two
daughters named Sanjana and Barhismati. Sanjana married Surya deva and started
to be called as Saranyu. Barhismati married Priyavrata and had a daughter named
Oorjaswati and 10 sons. Oorjaswati married Shukracharya. They had 5 children
called Twastra, Dharatra, Sham, Araila and Devyanee. Devyanee would wed Yayati
and would give birth to Yadu, the starter of the Chandravansha also called
Yadava vansh.
