Durga Puja 2019 : Countdown Begins Durga Puja  The first grand worship of Goddess Durga in recorded history is said to have been celebrated in the late 1500s. Folklores say the landlords, or  zamindar,  of Dinajpur and Malda initiated the first Durga Puja in Bengal. According to another source, Raja Kangshanarayan of Taherpur or Bhabananda Mazumdar of Nadiya organized the first  Sharadiya  or Autumn Durga Puja in Bengal in c. 1606. The origin of the community puja can be credited to the twelve friends of Guptipara in Hoogly, West Bengal, who collaborated and collected contributions from local residents to conduct the first community puja called the 'baro-yaari' puja, or the 'twelve-pal' puja, in 1790. लौहपुरुष सरदार वल्लभभाई पटेल सरदार वल्लभ भाई पटेल (31 अक्टूबर, 1875 - 15 दिसंबर, 1950) भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम सेनानी थे। भारत की आजादी के बाद वे प्रथम गृह मंत्री और उप-प्रधानमंत्री बने। बारडोली सत्याग्रह का नेतृत्व कर रहे पटेल को सत्याग्रह की सफलता पर वहाँ की महिलाओं ने सरदार की उपाधि प्रदान की। आजादी के बाद विभिन्न रियासतों में बिखरे भारत के भू-राजनीतिक एकीकरण में केंद्रीय भूमिका निभाने के लिए पटेल को भारत का बिस्मार्क और लौह पुरूष भी कहा जाता है। पटेल का जन्म नडियाद, गुजरात में एक लेवा गुर्जर कृषक परिवार में हुआ था। वे झवेरभाई पटेल एवं लाडबा देवी की चौथी संतान थे। सोमाभाई, नरसीभाई और विट्टलभाई उनके अग्रज थे। उनकी शिक्षा मुख्यतः स्वाध्याय से ही हुई। लन्दन जाकर उन्होंने बैरिस्टर की पढाई की और वापस आकर अहमदाबाद में वकालत करने लगे। महात्मा गांधी के विचारों से प्रेरित होकर उन्होने भारत के स्वतन्त्रता आन्दोलन में भाग लिया। स्वतन्त्रता आन्दोलन में सरदार पटेल का सबसे पहला और बडा योगदान खेडा संघर्ष में हुआ। गुजरात का खेडा खण्ड (डिविजन) उन दिनो भयंकर सूखे की चपेट में था। किसानों ने...

BHADU - Indian Folk Festival

Bhadu Puja Bhadu  is the social festival of South Bengal. The festival starts from the first day of Bhadro.  the fifth month in Bengali Calender.  and continues till the end of the month. It has its origins in the story of a princess called Bhadravati (Bhadresvari) of Panchakote who committed suicide. Bhadravati's devotees make an image of her and sing and dance before it throughout the month. On the last day of Bhadra, they gather on the river bank and immerse the image in the water. Songs, mainly focussing on marriage, form the main attraction of the festival in which both professional groups and amateurs take part. Celebrations include fairs and cultural programmes.
